Friedrichshafen - Meersburg - Konstanz

May 5th
We went to Friedrichshafen, Meersburg and Constance for the first time today. I was excited to see the other areas around the Bodensee. We started out by driving to Friedrichshafen and checking out the Zeplin museum. Friedrichshafen is where blimps were invented, and they had a cool exhibit set up. Old pieces from the blimps, a movie detailing the history of the company and even a scale model of a blimp we could go inside and look at. It was complete with bedrooms, bathrooms, and a smoking area. Afterwards we went and walked along the lake and climbed up a tower on the dock. The view was amazing up there, we could see the whole city and out across the lake. We grabbed and ice cream on the way back to the car then drove to Meersburg. Meersburg has to be one of my favorite places in the area. There is a stunning and ancient castle set up on the coast. A water wheel, an old church, a quaint shopping street and a café with a view were all added bonuses. I ended up meeting a couple Canadian guys who were studying in Constance for a semester. When we were done in Meersburg we took the car-ferry over to Constance. Unbeknownst to me at the time, Mark and Mike were also at Constance at the same time with Mikes host family. It was all of our first times. We never went to the famous flower island, but there was a giant baroque style church in the middle of town and (as all of the cities on the Bodensee) a nice lake-side section. It was getting late, so we decided to head home for dinner. We grabbed some burgers at an imbiss in Haselstauden and ate them at home with a Kellerbier.
